The Challenges

John Burns Construction Company upgraded three total traffic signal systems in the three busiest traffic signal intersections in the City of Chicago, March 2009 valued at $1,900,000.

  • Upgrade traffic signals in three busiest intersections in Chicago: 89th Street and Stony Island; 91st and Stony Island: Milwaukee Avenue – Nagle Avenue – Devon Avenue.
  • Installed new traffic signal poles, controllers, countdown pedestrian signal heads, vehicle detection cameras, sidewalk, asphalt, pavement marking and landscaping.
  • Completed project during off-peak time and nighttime hours in order to reduce the overall impact on the traveling public.
